U.S. and UAE strengthen port ties

Trade and investment relations between the U.S. and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been given a boost with the signing of a “sister ports” agreement linking the Department of Seaports and Customs in Sharjah and the Canaveral Port Authority of Florida.

“We are delighted to be part of such an important moment in the history of the UAE-USA trade relationship. The ‘Sister Ports’ agreement strengthens our ties with an already strong partner of the UAE and reflects our commitment to establishing strong international relationships to boost the country’s economic development,” Sheikh Khaled Bin Abdullah Al Qasimi of the Department of Seaports & Customs, Government of Sharjah said in comments to local news agency Gulf Today.

The cooperation agreement is expected to focus on the development of ‘economic resources, international trade and logistics’ and has been backed by Emirati operator Gulftainer, which is the main container terminal operator at both authorities’ facilities.
