News - Qatar contracts partners for $4 billion New Doha Port project
Qatar has made significant strides with its multi-billion dollar New Doha Port development with the signing of two contracts for the provision of project management and engineering design services to the project.
New Doha Port, a development expected to cost in the region of US$4 billion, is intended to serve Qatar as a commercial port and provide for the importation of raw materials and goods into the country after its scheduled operational date of 2014.
WorleyParsons Qatar has been awarded the contract for engineering design services for the port development, valued at US$35 million, while programme management services will be provided by Cansult Maunsell (part of the AECOM Technology Corporation) at a cost of US$149.3 million.
WorleyParsons remit includes oversight of dredging and reclamation, commercial port and naval berth facilities, port infrastructure, facility buildings and port equipment, where it has partnered with port consultancy Royal Haskoning for the delivery of the project.
AECOM will deploy its global transportation and programme management practices experts to work with the company's local design team in delivering the project.
"This exciting project to develop a new port facility in support of the rapidly growing economy and infrastructure of the Middle East provides an excellent example of how AECOM is able to leverage our global expertise and presence to serve our clients," said John M Dionisio, AECOM President and Chief Executive Officer.
